LEAD PASTOR SEARCH PROCESS OVERVIEW
We are committed to entering into this process of searching for our next Lead Pastor by faith. Trusting that God in His timing will give us all we need, to do all He has asked. We're committed to a season of prayer, fasting, and working collaboratively to propose to the boards at NCC the appropriate candidate for the next Lead Pastor. We will continue to keep the Gospel central in all we do to move us forward in the mission and vision God has given us to make much of Jesus, every day to every one!
PHASE 1 // ORGANIZATION / DEVELOPMENT
The Elders and Pastors at NCC have set the parameters and developed the process for hiring the next Lead Pastor. The criteria for the search team members is established in this phase. The Elders nominate the final candidates for the search team that make up a cross section of age, gender, and ministries from NCC. The congregation is called to commit to prayer and fasting during the process. A survey is dispatched to the three boards (Mission, Deacon, Elder) staff team, and search team to compile a candidate profile.
Elders commission the search team to find a candidate whom they will propose to the Elders, and then all three boards for vote during phase 6 of the process.
PHASE 2 // GATHERING INITIAL RESUMES
Search team convenes and begins to pray regularly together. The NCC Lead Pastor job listing is published to adequate portals to advertise the position. The listing will remain live until July 1, 2019. The Elders will seek internal networks/relationships to find potential candidates. The search team will continue to pray and begin to establish the filter based upon the survey results for the Lead Pastor candidate. Initial vetting of resumes will take place in this phase. The process will be dynamic based upon the amount of resumes collected.
PHASE 3 // DEEPER RESEARCH
All resumes will be compiled and the search team will finalize the top candidates from the initial resume vetting. The search team will submit and receive full candidate questionnaires from respective candidates in this phase. The search team will research further into specifics for each candidate: experience, preaching samples, social media audits, etc.
PHASE 4 // CONTACT / INTERVIEWS
Top candidates are selected and contacted for initial interviews by the search team via phone, skype, facetime or zoom. Candidates are questioned at greater length from the search team based upon the data from the candidate questionnaire. The search team will check references in this phase and possibly visit the candidates in their contexts as appropriate.
PHASE 5 // FINALIZING CANDIDATES
The top 2 candidates are selected with clarity from the search team. During this phase the #1 candidate visits NCC for an interview, meets staff team, the Elders, and all boards. Final prayer and discernment from search team following formal interview of candidates.
PHASE 6 // PASTORAL CALLING
The final interview weekend includes preaching a Sunday morning service at NCC. The search team presents the top candidate to the Elders. The Elders present final candidate to quorum of all NCC boards for 3/4 vote. The candidate will then be presented to the NCC members with a recommendation to call the candidate as Lead Pastor. Then there will be a ballot vote at a special meeting or after 2nd worship service. A two-thirds vote of members present is required to approve the candidate and install as next Lead Pastor.
PHASE 7 // COMMITMENT / INSTALLATION
Finalization of job offer, establish relocation timeframe, welcome reception, and final details.
