We Are Devoted
Topic: Devotion Passage: Luke 9:23
Ryan Johnston teaches this week from Luke 9:23, a passage in which Jesus lays out what it means to be a disciple in a brief but powerful way. What we learn in this passage - and the context of this chapter in Luke - is that Christ asks us to do what he himself did for us. He tells us to take up our cross and follow him, to make a choice and recognizing that though we may not know exactly what it means to be a disciple of Jesus we're willing to commit to a life of radical self-denial, rejecting a life of self-fulfillment and self-interest. In short, to be devoted to him. When you think about it, we are all a disciple of something - the news, sports, today's culture. But what would it mean if we were to stop looking for the blessing and start looking at the blessing?
