What is Child Dedication?

Child Dedication is a recognition that the child that you have been given is not yours, but God’s.  God is the author and creator of life.  Your child is a miracle of God’s creative power.

– Psalm 139:13-14 –

Child Dedication is a commitment that you are making to teach your child about Jesus and learn to walk in His ways. This is a commitment of intentionality, as the primary influence in your child’s life, to both model and teach them about their Heavenly Father.

– Deuteronomy 6:4-9 –

Your child also comes with great responsibility, which requires a dependence on Jesus every day. Our children can bring us to our knees like nothing else in life. Parents must model and possess the relationship with Jesus that we are pointing our children towards. Acknowledging your need for God’s wisdom and direction in your own life will allow you to draw on His strength for your parenting.

– Deuteronomy 4:9 –

Participating in Child Dedication is committing to the following
  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ as your own Lord and Savior.
  • Pray with and for your child.
  • Teach your child about Jesus and God’s plan for redemption.
  • Actively participating in the church with your child.
  • Pursuit of a Christ-like life in all areas, including your home and your parenting.
What age can a child be dedicated?

NCC recognizes that each family is unique.  While a parent’s influence is never too late, the ages from birth through 12 years old is a time of great teaching and learning inside of the home.  We welcome any NCC family who is pursuing the ways of the Lord, who has not previously participated in having their child dedicated, to take the steps to do so.

Is membership at NCC required to participate in Child Dedication?

Membership is not required, however, because community and discipleship are keys to spiritual growth in each of our lives, we do ask that you are actively attending and participating in the church body at the North Canton Chapel.
